The past 5 days or so have been incredibly busy (and nice, too!) So, after a fast trip to Odessa and a few hours spent knocking around between (mostly) the train station, McDonald's and the airport, the train last night was a welcome sight and the bed there a welcome spot. Landed in on Lillian this am and have been catching up. For one- I've been reading about the rescue of the miners in Chile. For me, this picture of the hospital beds awaiting the rescued miners was the most touching, somehow. The hope of 33 live patients. The realization that they will need some medical help. They're not there yet (when the pic was taken) but they're ready and waiting and expectant. And it also shows that, in spite of the jubilation that they survived, they won't be able to just step into their lives where they 'left off' 10 weeks ago.
The rescue was an amazing thing. It is beyond me to comprehend what those men went through, trapped in the mine and then the journey to the surface. It would have been very hard for me to step into that capsule for the ride to the top, because of the tight fit.
ReplyDeleteYes. We were riveted too. Amazing how we could "witness" it just seconds after it happened (thx internet). Spectacular that there were zero problems. Every one of them got out ok. Phew. Now I just pray they follow up on their serious thoughts about life, death and God!
ReplyDeleteAmazing. I read that the foreman kept them for 17 days on rations meant for 2 days. It'll be interesting to hear their stories.

ReplyDeletewhat got me, was those who knelt down straight away to pray, even before embracing their loved ones, would have been easy to get caught up in the hype, emotion etc and forget whatever intention they may have had to thank God.
ReplyDeleteone will never know the silent and sincere vows some of them maybe made..i wasn't able to get video on my computer during it all but the stories were so touching and you're right..love the picture of those expectant hospital beds...glad we know One who is always expecting to help us...
ReplyDeleteIt was amazing to be able to see the footage- I saw it all after the fact, but followed along with the online articles at the time.
ReplyDeleteJenny- that foreman must have been amazing. He had obviously been the right choice for that job!
And yes- we hope for more than just short term serious thoughts about life and death.
